Interview with RingCentral's Board of Directors Member Mohan Gyani

RingCentral (News - Alert) announced last month that Mohan Gyani the former president and CEO of AT&T (News - Alert) Wireless Mobility Services would join RingCentral’s Board of Directors.

 
Prior to joining RingCentral’s Board of Directors, Gyani’s previous experience in the telecommunications industry includes being president and CEO of AT&T Wireless Mobility Services, CFO and Executive Vice President of AirTouch, and he was a key leader in the merger of AirTouch and Vodafone (News - Alert) and the subsequent joint venture with Bell Atlantic that resulted in the creation of Verizon Wireless.
 
Gyani also served on the Board of Director and head of Strategy and Corporate Development of Vodafone AirTouch PLC following the merger of Vodafone and AirTouch in addition to the Board of Director of the GSM Association and the CTIA (News - Alert) (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association).
 
TMCnet had the chance to speak with Gyani about his upcoming endeavors with RingCentral:
 
What do you hope to achieve being on the Board of Directors?
 
As more and more business is conducted via mobile phones and the adoption of SmartPhones continues to soar, the only way to efficiently deliver business telecommunication applications to mobile users is through Cloud computing platforms like RingCentral.  I look forward to using my industry experience to help RingCentral deliver on this opportunity.
 
How do you presently view RingCentral as a company?
 
RingCentral is an industry leader, driving disruptive technology change in telecommunications and delivering tremendous value that expensive legacy systems are incapable of delivering. The company has built a unique and proven cloud computing-based technology and distribution platform.
 
What do you hope to gain from working with RingCentral?
 
I am excited to be working with a company at this stage of its development. Since the industry is in the early phase of a large and disruptive technology shift, the opportunity for RingCentral is very significant. I like being part of new and exciting businesses.
 
What are your future plans?
 
I enjoy being involved in a select few companies where I can contribute and bring my years of experience to help these companies become industry leaders.
 
Gyani also serves on the board of directors for Keynote Systems (News - Alert), Mobile TeleSystems OJSC, Safeway, SIRF Technology Holdings, and Union Bank of California as well as certain private companies in addition to his new board position with RingCentral.
