The consistent improvements in the telecommunications space suggests that fax communications are something of the past. A closer look into Unified Communications (News - Alert) areas reveals the reality that faxing is still very much a part of the business landscape – only the application has changed.
Copia International, an innovator in fax-server and mission-critical fax-broadcast software markets, delivers solutions such as FaxFacts, VoiceFacts and E-MailFacts to address the fax, voice and e-mail markets. The company’s strength is demonstrated in its FaxFacts solution, which can generate high volumes of personalized faxes at a rate of 600 pages per minute.
A number of companies run thousands of lines of Copia’s fax software to deliver outsource faxing solutions to their client base. Copia was facing a challenge, however. The weak economy and increased pressure to lower the price on their solution, was threatening to push the company out of the market. Copia was also facing growing demand for an offering to support both TDM and IP networks.
Copia needed to make a move to become better equipped to address the SMB market segment. The solution was found in the combination of Sangoma’s telephony boards and Commetrex’ (News - Alert) BladeWare HMP fax platform. As a result, Commetrex was able to get the price per TDM fax port to less than $200, as well as address all of Copia’s challenges. Prior to this collaboration, such solutions were only available in the T1/E1 span configuration, which can cost as much as $15,000.
The new solution is not only meeting the cost challenges in the market, it also offers features that meet or exceed the feature set of the current products in the market. Additionally, the solution still needs to interact with the PSTN to connect with fax lines that rely on this communication channel when offline. Bladeware’s support for the Sangoma analog and digital PSTN interfaces ensures that Commetrex can offer fax-server OEMs support for VoIP and standard networks that are operating on the same system, or even the same application software.
As a result, the development costs are significantly lowered.“OEMs that were purchasing the boards they needed on the secondary market are now buying new boards from us, and at much lower prices.
Also, Commetrex should soon have voice support added to BladeWare, allowing us to add voice to our systems without additional boards, which today we have to purchase from another vendor,” said Steve Hersee CEO, Copia International, in a success story release. Copia was able to address critical challenges to improve its overall positioning in the market, delivering the solutions and technologies demanded by its current and prospective customers. Susan J. CEO Commentary
"We Make FoIP Work!" I recently spoke with a vice president of engineering at a large enterprise-fax vendor. Our customer wanted to know if we had a program to establish interop certifications with IP carriers. Prior to that I had spoken with a product-management director at another large enterprise-fax server vendor (actually, our largest customer), and he wanted to know if we had
a certification lab for various gateways. I didn't have good answers to either question. We just don't have the resources and scale to make a reasonable dent
in the massive numbers ...
Smart FoIPTM
Smart FoIP, Commetrex' patent-applied-for technology, has been integrated into BladeWare, and is optionally available with T.38 Fax Relay and Multi-Modal Terminating Fax (MMTF) for use in SIP networks. Smart FoIP eliminates the problems caused by late-arriving T.38 re-Invites from the receiving gateway, which can cause the call to fail if the re-Invite is accepted when it should actually be rejected.
